Joe Who?

Hi, I'm Joe.  I grew up in the cornfields of New Jersey (yes, there really are farms in N.J.) and then went to college in Washington, D.C., but I still made it to Chicago from the east coast a relatively patient and well-mannered guy.  I have a dog and I like bacon cheeseburgers, in case you like details.

After college, I worked at a great company for years where everyone was young and single, so going into the office every day was like going to hang out with friends.

Then I moved to Chicago and barely knew anyone.  I took a job in a stuffy office with a small group of older people who ate at their desks every day and fled back to the suburbs every night.  I started graduate school and while most of the other students were nice, I knew I wouldn't be building my whole life in Chicago around them.

I joined some social clubs and went to networking events, but navigating through the masses of people was a constant struggle to figure out three things:

  1. Who was actually there to meet new friends
  2. Who was really just there to find a date or to hookup
  3. How I could avoid the people I met last time and knew I didn't like

My tolerance for awkward social situations is unusually high - it's like my super power, so it wasn't too long before I assembled a great group of friends from here and there, and Chicago began to feel like home. Nevertheless, I still know how difficult it can be to achieve and then maintain the life you want in a new city or when friends move away faster than you can replace them, even when you are "normal" and there is nothing "wrong" with you.

I started Meet Joe as a trustworthy and affordable service to help people meet new friends in Chicago and enjoy life in good company. By focusing exclusively on matching new friends and leaving the dating stuff to other sites/services that specialize in it, Meet Joe peels away an extra layer of tension and uncertainty that can make meeting new people uncomfortable in the first place.

So give Meet Joe a try - support a locally owned and operated business in the process, and give yourself an opportunity to meet great new friends you may already be passing by on the street every day.
